DUMPLING
Nearly everyone on earth probably has heard about dumplings now, They are a staple food at every Chinese festival, when you miss home you eat dumplings, when your hungry you eat dumplings.
Now what a dumpling is is a a outer casing made out of flour that has a filling which can be made out of meat and vegetable and all sorts of combination. They are usually boiled but you can have pan seared dumplings and steamed dumplings
Most common type of filling would be white cabbage and pork, celery and pork and my favorite carrots and beef.
The most common misconception about dumplings is that they are Japanese but we created dumpling first and they have a coy of it called gyoza which is really similar to it but isn't just the same because the filling of the two are not the same.
The texture of dumplings are a chewy outer layer with a juicy filling just exploding with unami
According to legend, Chinese stuffed dumplings were invented during the Han Dynasty by a man named Zhang Zhongjian. The event occurred when Zhang returned to his ancestral village during the winter, after a long absence. He noticed that many of his fellow citizens were suffering from frostbite, particularly around their ears. As a way to solve this problem, Zhang cooked up a batch of mutton, chili and healing herbs and wrapped them in scraps of dough. He folded the dumplings to look like little ears, boiled them and handed them out to his afflicted neighbors. Who knows if they cured frostbite, but the villagers loved the taste of Zhang’s creation so much that they kept making the dumplings long after spring began.
